If you have a milkshake and I have a milkshake and I have a straw and my straw reaches across the room and starts to drink your milkshake. I drink your milkshake! I drink it up!

Ms Kawasaki: Welcome to Tokyo!

Ms Kawasaki: My name is Kawasaki. Nice to meet you.

Bob: I’ve heard of you. Thank you.

~ Lost In Translation

Action/Crime/Thriller
"The Bride’ played by Uma Thurman was part of a deadly assassin squad. She falls in love with Bill, the leader of the group, and becomes pregnant with his child. She doesn’t want to be a part of the group fearing for her unborn child, so she escapes to Texas where she meets a man and gets engaged. Stricken with rage and jealousy, Bill and his team find The Bride during her wedding rehearsal and gun everyone down including The Bride and her unborn baby. The Bride wakes up 4 years later from a coma and realizes what happened to her and her baby. She decides to seek revenge against the 5 people who ruined her life, including Bill.
Recommendation: This is one of Quentin Tarantino’s most iconic films. In typical Tarantino fashion, it has heavy servings in the blood and gore category. I was completely taken in by how cool this story was and how it was told.
**Nominated for Golden Globe ~ Best Actress in a Leading Role (Uma Therman)**
Rating: 8.7

Gunnery Sgt: Where in the hell are you from anyway, private?

Private: Sir, Texas, Sir!

Gunnery Sgt: Holy dog sh*t, Texas! Only steers and queers come from Texas, private cowboy! And you don’t look much like a steer to me so that kinda narrows it down!

~Full Metal Jacket

Drama/War
Full Metal Jacket is a Vietnam war era film. The first half of the movie is about a platoon of marine recruits who are going through their time in boot camp. Here they are constantly harassed and pushed to the limit by their war-hardened drill instructor. The second half of the film follows “Joker” as he covers Vietnam as a war correspondent. He travels with a platoon as they fight in the Tet offensive.
Recommendation: Considered by some to be one of the greatest war films ever made, this is very well done. This is right up there with Platoon, Apocalypse Now and The Deer Hunter. Easily one of the best war films I’ve ever seen.
**Nominated for the Academy Award for Best Writing**
